Stockholm Exergi is a Swedish energy company that runs a woody biomass-powered combined heat and power plant in Stockholm. They are planning to using a Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) facility at the plant in 2027, with a final investment decision expected at the end of 2024.
Stockholm Exergi aims for their BECCS plant to become more eficient than previous CCS projects and pilots by coupling a heat pump to the CCS installation, thereby recuperating the heat generated at each step of the process to feed into the city’s district heating network.
With the decision, Stockholm Exergi is starting the construction phase immediately with the goal of having the bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) facility operational in 2028. This is a historic moment for Stockholm Exergi and for the climate transition.
